Abstract: Patients with peripheral arterial disease are at increased risk for all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and mortality from coronary artery disease. Smoking should be stopped, and hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia should be treated. Statins reduce the incidence of intermittent claudication and increase exercise duration until the onset of intermittent claudication in patients with peripheral arterial disease and hypercholesterolemia. Antiplatelet drugs, such as aspirin or clopidogrel, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, and statins, should be given to all patients with peripheral arterial disease. Beta-blockers should be given if coronary artery disease is …

To date, studies suggest that biological signaling by nitric oxide (NO) is primarily mediated by cGMP, which is synthesized by NO-activated guanylyl cyclases and broken down by cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDEs). Effects of cGMP occur through three main groups of cellular targets: cGMP-dependent protein kinases (PKGs), cGMP-gated cation channels, and PDEs. cGMP binding activates PKG, which phosphorylates serines and threonines on many cellular proteins, frequently resulting in changes in activity or function, subcellular localization, or regulatory features. The …

DiscussionCILON-T trial will give powerful insight into whether triple anti-platelet therapy is superior to dual anti-platelet therapy in reducing ischemic events and platelet reactivity in the real-world unselected patients treated with drug-eluting stent for coronary heart disease. Also, it will verify the laboratory and clinical significance of drug interaction between lipophilic statin and clopidogrel.Trial Registration. Diabetic nephropathy is characterized as the progressive development of renal insufficiency in a setting of hyperglycemia. Previous studies indicate that reactive oxygen species (ROS) play an important role in high glucose-induced renal injury. Cilostazol was reported to lower the production of superoxide significantly in situ. We hypothesized that Cilostazol administration in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats exerts effects via improving oxidative stress. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed with Cilostazol (5 …

Conclusions
Among PCI-treated patients receiving high-MD clopidogrel, carriage of CYP2C19 variant relates to increased PR and predicts risk of HPPR. Peripheral artery disease (PAD), which comprises atherosclerosis of the abdominal aorta, iliac, and lower-extremity arteries, is underdiagnosed, undertreated, and poorly understood by the medical community. Patients with PAD may experience a multitude of problems, such as claudication, ischemic rest pain, ischemic ulcerations, repeated hospitalizations, revascularizations, and limb loss. This may lead to a poor quality of life and a high rate of depression. From the standpoint of the limb, the prognosis of patients with PAD is favorable in that the claudication remains stable in 70% to 80% of patients over …

Patients over the age of 70, or patients over age 50 who have diabetes or a history of smoking, are at high risk for peripheral vascular disease (PVD) — but probably don’t know it.
Although more than eight million Americans have this condition, in which atherosclerotic plaque builds up in vessels outside the heart and brain — most commonly resulting in reduced blood flow to the legs and feet — many have no symptoms, or they mistake the signs for something else.
Though the disease has long been recognized as an indicator …
