Abstract Desquamative inflammatory vaginitis (DIV) is a rare chronic clinical syndrome of unknown etiology characterized by profuse
purulent vaginal discharge, diffuse exudative vaginitis, epithelial cell exfoliation, and pain. A diagnosis of DIV is often
missed by even experienced practitioners owing to its rarity and its clinical and laboratory presentation similar to other
inflammatory vulvovaginal disorders. Although DIV is difficult to treat and often requires long-term therapy for maintenance,
successful therapy has been reported with topical steroids and Clindamycin.

In a retrospective medical record review of 12 patients with posterior pole (zone 1) toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis (TRC), Lasave et al (p. 1831) have found that intravitreal Clindamycin and dexamethasone is associated with resolution of the condition. The patients were placed on the medication due to an intolerance to oral medication, contraindication to oral medication due to pregnancy, or a lack of response despite oral antimicrobial treatment. The patients included in the study were treated weekly with intravitreal injections of Clindamycin (1.5 mg/0.1 ml) and dexamethasone (400 μg/0.1 ml), with an average of 3.6 injections. We present a case of systemic Mycobacterium chelonae infection in an immunosuppressed patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), idiopathic hypoparathyroidism, and hypothyroidism.
The patient was treated for 3 months for skin infection with clarithromycin monotherapy. Since her condition deteriorated,
the antibiotic therapy was switched to intravenously administered Clindamycin, cloxacillin, and meropenem. Due to further
deterioration and isolation of M. chelonae from the blood culture, antimicrobial therapy was changed to azithromycin and amikacin. Drug-test sensitivity was performed,
and the isolate was susceptible to clarithromycin only. The patient’s deteriorating status prevented orally administered medication
with clarithromycin (parenteral formulation is not registered …

Tetracycline, Clindamycin, and other protein synthesis inhibitors at subinhibitory concentrations significantly increased expression of the pivotal virulence regulator agr and production of the agr-regulated cytolytic phenol-soluble modulins in the community-associated MRSA strain USA300. Our results suggest that such protein synthesis inhibitors may exacerbate progression of CA-MRSA disease when applied at concentrations that are too low or when treating infections caused by strains resistant to those antibiotics.

Detection of inducible clindamycin resistance among Staphylococcal isolates from different clinical specimens in western India

Conclusions: Fifty percent of Staphylococcal spp. were ER among which 23.48% were iMLS B phenotypes. Eighty-seven per cent of iMLS B phenotypes were observed to be methicillin-resistant. The high frequency of methicillin resistance isolates (87.12%) with in vitro inducible Clindamycin resistance at our institute raises concern of Clindamycin treatment failures with methicillin-resistant infections. So we recommend that microbiology laboratories should include the D-test for inducible resistance to Clindamycin in the routine antibiotic susceptibility testing. Abstract The prevalence of antibiotic resistance and their genetic determinants in colonizing group B streptococci (GBS) sampled in
a Swedish nationwide survey was examined. In five GBS isolates (1.3%), kanamycin/amikacin resistance and the presence of the
aphA-3 gene was identified. Three of these isolates carried the aad-6 gene and were streptomycin-resistant. Screening with kanamycin and streptomycin 1,000-μg disks enabled a rapid and easy detection
of these isolates. In all, 312/396 (79%) GBS were tetracycline-resistant and 95% of the examined isolates harbored the tetM gene. Among the 22 (5.5%) GBS resistant to erythromycin and/or Clindamycin, the ermB gene was detected in nine isolates (41%) and erm(A/TR) in ten isolates (45%).
